What is IsletCore?
-established in early 2010 with a joint $1.4 million commitment from the Alberta Diabetes Foundation and the University of Alberta.
-a human islet isolation and research facility located in a state-of-the art laboratory on the 5th floor of the
Alberta Diabetes Institute.

Our Goals
-while a number of human donor pancreases are used for clinical purposes such as islet transplantation, many are not suitable for clinical use and therefore go unused. The goal of IsletCore is to process these organs for the isolation, banking and distribution of human islets specifically for research purposes.
-we are working with institutions and agencies across Canada to establish a network of centers for the processing and distribution of human research islets across the country; increasing capacity to study human islets and gain new insights into the cause and treatment of diabetes.
